HBO Max has ordered three new pilots as part of its push to line up original programming ahead of its 2020 launch date. Among the new pilots ordered is one from Jessica Jones scribe Melissa Rosenberg, which adapts author Alice Hoffman's novel, The Rules of Magic, a prequel to Practical Magic. Oh, does that latter title ring a bell? That may be thanks to the fact Practical Magic was adapted into a 1998 movie starring Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, and Aidan Quinn. The Rules of Magic is getting a whole new life for the up-…
The series might be called Jessica Jones, but Trish Walker is undeniably one of the most important and interesting characters in JJ. It's ironic that in a show that is ostensibly about a superhero named Jessica Jones the one character who truly wants to lean into the idea of a superhero saving the world is Jessica's best friend and adoptive sister Trish. But when Trish was just a regular girl she was always there supporting Jessica, and even pushing Jessica into a heroic role that she didn't want to occupy.
Throughout the three seasons of Jessica Jones, Jessica has had a variety of love interests from the quick hook-up to the neighbor turned lover to the potential serious relationship. Out of all these, the two that stand out the most are Season 3's Erik Gelden and Luke Cage. Both Erik and Luke Cage challenge and support Jessica. In addition, she has amazing chemistry with both.
Netflix dropped the final season of Jessica Jones on June 14th, and with it, hammered the final nail into the coffin that is the Netflix MCU. While a bold vision when it began – four superheroes teaming up on the small screen – the team failed to live up to the hype of their silver-screened counterparts. As the last show of that era, it also fell to Jessica Jones to tie up not only her series own plot threads but bigger ones from the Netflix MCU at large.
Executive produced by showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Jessica Jones (available to stream at Netflix) is back for a third season, as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) crosses paths with a highly intelligent and very deadly killer. At the same time, Jessica has cut the newly powered Trish (Rachael Taylor) out of her life, as she struggles to live up to her mother’s expectations for being a hero, but in order to survive the madman who wants to put an end to the super-powered, the two must find a way to …
Netflix’s Jessica Jones was a great run while it lasted – but unfortunately, it too has gone the way of the rest of the Marvel & Netflix series. At least this show, in particular, got more of a heads up than some of the others (sorry Daredevil). But even with that warning, it feels like there are still so many plots and ideas left unexplored for Jessica Jones.
Now that Jessica Jones has come to its (premature, in our opinion) conclusion, it seems like a good time to reflect on all of the characters who came in and out of her orbit that ultimately defined her journey across the course of three seasons. During her tenure as a reluctant superhero, she has had quite a few different partners in fighting crime. Sometimes it was for the better, sometimes it was for the worse, but Jessica's companions often times guided the course of her story more than she did.
Now that Jessica Jones, drunken detective extraordinaire, has successfully wrapped her third and final season, along with the rest of Netflix’s Marvel universe, it’s time to take a look back at some of the most important characters involved in her three season-long tale of trauma, love, and loss. Whether it’s the sly, slippery, and salient Kilgrave, the villainous man responsible for Jessica’s trauma, and her turn to heroism, or Trish Walker a beloved friend turned sister turned foe, there’s plenty to dive into. Using the Myers-Briggs Type Index, let’s breakdown some of the iconic characters and get to know them a little better before saying our final goodbye. So grab that giant bottle of bourbon and prepare. Major spoilers ahead for all three season of Jessica Jones.
It's closing time: Now that season three has dropped, the Netflix series Jessica Jones is officially over. The show hasn't been perfect--has been middling since season one, in fact--but that doesn't mean we're happy to see it go. Of all the Marvel/Netflix shows, this one had the most potential going in. It lovingly gave us one of the most dark-but-loveable heroes yet, and the most compelling villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: David Tennant's Kilgrave.
