Let’s get this out of the way first: Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 is one of my favorite films of 2020. Not only is it loaded with incredible performances, and features a brilliant script by Sorkin, the movie is perfectly timed and speaks to what is going on in America today. As most of you know from the trailers, The Trial of the Chicago 7 dramatizes the events around the Chicago Seven, a group of activists who faced a multitude of federal charges in the wake of protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Unfortunately, …
Cinematographer Phedon Papamichael has had a very diverse career thus far. He’s worked with filmmakers ranging from Gore Verbinski to Oliver Stone to Judd Apatow, all of whom have incredibly different styles and methods of working. Even Papamichael’s two closest collaborators, Alexander Payne and James Mangold, approach the art of making movies in very different ways. But Papamichael says that’s exactly what makes his job so fun. It’s fresh each time. That was certainly the case with The Trial of the Chicago 7, Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin’s second directorial effort. It’s a rousing …
Trying to predict the Oscars in the Year of Our Lord 2020 is like attempting the technical challenge on Great British Bake Off. You might know what it’s supposed to look like, but under these conditions with these instructions? All bets are off. So yes, I begin this installment of Collider’s Oscar Beat – the first about the 2021 Oscar race – with the caveat that this is an insane year with insane outliers and there truly is no precedent for making predictions under these kind of conditions, but that’s part of what makes it fun. And while we …
Quick question for the peanut gallery here. Does that last courtroom scene in The Trial Of The Chicago 7 work for everyone else?

Writer-director Aaron Sorkin's star-studded chronicle of The Trial of the Chicago 7 is timely and terrific.
Let's take a look at the actual Chicago 7 (formerly Chicago 8) before watching the Netflix film.
Aaron Sorkin’s second directorial effort is about to premiere on streaming.
Aaron Sorkin is not the name I think of when I think of political unrest, the counterculture, and protest movements. Sorkin, for the majority of his career, has been largely Capra-esque in his assessments of America, seeing the struggles but ultimately upholding institutions as good and just. Movies like A Few Good Men and The American President reaffirm a belief in our institutions, and The West Wing is essentially a fairy tale of good-hearted people committed to good governance. Sorkin does not seem like the obvious choice for telling the story of the Chicago 7, but his new …
Netflix has released the official trailer for The Trial of the Chicago 7, which is set to premiere on the streamer in mid-October. Trial of the Chicago 7 is the sophomore feature directorial effort from Aaron Sorkin, who, as one might suspect, also wrote the script. Netflix acquired Sorkin's latest from Paramount over the summer and marks one of the buzziest releases for the streaming giant in 2020. Any questions around whether or not Netflix is strategizing to put The Trial of the Chicago 7 in this year's Oscars race are answered with the newest trailer. The …
