Now that Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is a hit, should Napoleon Dynamite 2 come next?
In 2004, a small, innocuous comedy called Napoleon Dynamite premiered. As with other irreverent teen comedies like Superbad and Juno, it wasn’t afraid to focus on celebrating the 'weird' kids in high school. What was special about Napoleon Dynamite was that it seemed totally organically born. It was like the film crew just set up cameras and filmed actual people living in rural Idaho, a celebration of eccentricity.
Released way back in 2004, Napoleon Dynamite was one of those movies that defined a generation. The comedy film stars Jon Heder as the title character, a socially awkward high school student who lives with his grandmother and unemployed 30-something year brother until his uncle Rico comes to help out when grandma gets injured. Constantly being bullied, Napoleon lives in his own fantasy world, and appears hilariously aloof.
