An American Pickle, the HBO Max comedy about a man who is cryogenically, um, pickled, and awoken in the future to meet his modern ancestor, stars Seth Rogen in two roles, interacting constantly with "himself." How did they pull this ubiquitous visual effect off so well, and so seamlessly? Luckily for us curious filmmaking fans, HBO Max has just released a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the doubling of one Mr. Rogen. The actor told CinemaBlend about the decision behind taking his new comedy to streaming.
So many great movies to choose from after you watch An American Pickle this weekend.
Seth Rogen really didn't want to share the spotlight with himself for the HBO Max original.
Doing a dual role performance makes the simplest stuff challenging.
The solidly entertaining comedy An American Pickle sees Seth Rogen break his manchild mold to explore roles more challenging, rich, and uniquely funny.
Lately, I’ve been talking to my parents about our family ancestry. As the pandemic ravages our country and death looms large in the public imagination, I’ve looked for refuge in the past by trying to bring the story of my ancestors to life. As the descendant of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe on both sides of my family, I should have connected with Brandon Trost’s new movie An American Pickle. The story of a modern man coming face-to-face with his Jewish ancestor has a lot of potential, but sadly Simon Rich’s script only realizes …
All eight Harry Potter films might be hitching a broomstick right off of HBO Max in August, but WarnerMedia's streaming service has plenty of gems debuting next month, too. Batman is back in a big way, with Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns arriving on August 1 alongside Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, plus Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Some other early-August highlights include Blade Runner: The Final Cut, The Fugitive, Ocean's Eleven, and Wedding Crashers. On the original film front, An American Pickle—which stars Seth Rogen …

The brine preserves him perfectly, and when he emerges in present day Brooklyn, the impressively bearded man finds that he hasn’t aged …
The streaming wars were always going to heat up this year, but they've taken on a new angle as everyone is stuck inside and companies see a prime opportunity to lock down a captive audience. HBO Max is set to debut on May 27th, but they're already planning to the end of the summer with a wave of original content that includes the Seth Rogen comedy An American Pickle, the three-part Amy Schumer documentary Expecting Amy, the adult animated comedy Close Enough, the scripted comedy Frayed, and more. The question becomes will this be enough to get …
HBO Max has acquired the Seth Rogen comedy An American Pickle from Sony and will release the movie this summer under its Warner Max label, the streamer announced Monday. Rogen's frequent cinematographer Brandon Trost directed from a script by Simon Rich, who adapted his own 2013 New Yorker novella series Sell Out. Rogen produced with his Point Grey partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, which Rich executive produced alongside Point Grey’s Alex McAtee and Ted Gidlow. Rogen plays dual roles in the film, including that of Herschel Greenbaum, a struggling laborer who immigrates to America in 1920 with …
