There's a Scream reference in Five Nights At Freddy's that's so clever, I'm mad I didn't pick up on it upon first glance.
Director Chris Columbus did not hold back when the topic of the Disney+ Home Alone reboot came up in a recent interview. Columbus directed both the 1990 original and the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The reboot will directed by Dan Mazer and is written by Saturday Night Live duo Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. At the end of 2019, it was announced that Jojo Rabbit breakout star Archie Yates would take on the role originated by Macaulay Culkin. If you like late night programing like Late Night with Seth Meyers or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver but can sometimes feel overwhelmed by the anxiety those topical shows can induce, The Amber Ruffin Show is here to make your day. Streaming exclusively on Peacock (which is entirely free), The Amber Ruffin Show is a new late-night show hosted by Late Night with Seth Meyers writer and on-camera standout Amber Ruffin, who has become a highlight of the NBC staple with her segments like “Amber Says What?” Ruffin’s superpower is delivering incisive and extremely pointed political …
With the release of Rian Johnson’s much anticipated Knives Out just over three weeks away, the movie’s official Twitter page posted three character videos today that shed a little more light on the Thrombey/Drysdale families, as well as the tone of the film. And the cutting/knife puns are aplenty with these short promo pieces. In concert with the videos are webpages built for the fictitious companies the characters work for and operate. First up, Jamie Lee Curtis is Linda Drysdale, a realtor with Thrombey Real Estate, who insists that buying a house shouldn’t have to …
Hard to deny that we live in an age dominated by the superhero. That classic Superman chestnut, "Look up in the sky!", feels as apropos as ever when you can't drive down a major road without Tony Stark's mustachioed mug or Clark Kent's Kryptonian biceps flexing down at you like judgemental gods. They rule the box office, they rule the pop culture conversation, they rule the graphic t-shirt real estate at every coffee shop. We're about one particularly effective after-credits scene away from fandom spilling over into actual worship—pull up any video from …
Sharp Objects is both a book and a HBO Series. While the series made some changes from the book, core elements stayed the same.
Stuber wears the look of a throwback buddy comedy. Its stars are a mismatched duo who are hilarious together as they’re thrown together in a relatively small-stakes action narrative that has them in shootouts and car chases. What makes Stuber modern and gives Michael Dowse’s movie its edge is how it provides conflicting examples of masculinity and looks for the middle ground between them. The comedy and the action still come first, but Stuber goes one step further by questioning both machismo and timidity in its male characters to find how both sides are flawed and that …
On the heels of yesterday’s trailer, Lionsgate has released a Knives Out poster. The film is a family-centric whodunit based on an original idea by writer-director Rian Johnson, and boasts an impressive cast including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Katherine Langford, Lakeith Stanfield, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer. While I’m sure Lionsgate will eventually release a poster where they try to cram in every floating head of the cast, this poster would look great on your wall. It’s refined, classy, the font-work is …
Gillian Flynn’s novel Sharp Objects was adapted into a great miniseries. It had all the makings of an intriguing murder mystery. So, of course, when it hit the small screen we were beyond excited. It brought the grittiness of Wind Gap to life and make the characters even more jarring and broken than we imagined. The mystery was revealed in the last episode but it also left us with a few questions. Now, there are talks for a possible season 2 and let’s be clear, we need some pressing questions answered. There are a few stones left unturned about Adora, Amma, Marian and Camille that would get us a little closer to finding out who they really are. We know that Flynn probably did this on purpose but what’s the harm in answering them now?
The premise of Gentleman Jack will at first seem familiar to fans of historical drama: In 1832 Halifax, a wealthy and well-traveled landowner returns home and sets about to starting up a coal mine and taking care of local injustices while falling in love with a lovely heiress who has (until now) sworn off marriage. Can’t you just feel the pull of romance upon the moors? Except in this particular case, the wealthy landowner happens to be a woman, which gives Gentleman Jack a unique perspective on both the time period and gender politics. The protagonist, Anne Lister — …
For anyone questioning the choice Barry made at the end of its first season to see Barry (Bill Hader) secure his future with a very personal murder, the new season delivers a startlingly confident reply. Picking up in the weeks following Janice's (Paula Newsome) disappearance, Barry sees the unraveling of his plan almost immediately. An inconsolable Gene (Henry Winkler) is ready to shut down production and quit the acting class, and everything Barry hoped to preserve beings to fall apart. He lets slip to his girlfriend Sally (Sarah Goldberg) in one chilling aside about the calculation: "Then it was …
In one episode of Shrill, Hulu’s new half-hour series, Annie (Aidy Bryant) hesitatingly starts to cross a busy Portland intersection. There’s no signal to walk, just a pedestrian crossing where cars should stop. Annie steps a foot out into traffic as a car screeches to a halt, and then she retreats back to the sidewalk, saying “sorry!” and telling them to go ahead. Since they don’t move, she takes a step again just as they advance, and the scene repeats several times with more and more irritated honking until a tall, voluptuous woman in a bright … The post ‘Shrill’ Review: Aidy Bryant’s Sharp Hulu Series Hits Home appeared first on Collider.
