Peacock, NBC Universal's streaming service, announced Monday that it's ordered eight half-hour episodes of MacGruber, with creator-star Will Forte back to play the world's dumbest tough guy action hero.
It was a no-brainer back when it was announced in January, but Peacock has now officially greenlit an eight-episode MacGruber TV series that sees Will Forte reprise his role as America's ultimate hero. The action comedy is based on the Saturday Night Live sketch that parodied MacGyver, as well as the 2010 movie of the same name, which has since gone on to become a cult classic. The series picks up as MacGruber is finally released from prison following a brutal 10-year stretch behind bars. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past -- …
In a true gift of a story, this week we learned director Christopher Nolan (you know, the guy who gave us a trio of Batman movies, Inception, and the upcoming Tenet), is a big fan of the 2010 comedy MacGruber. Not only that, but the world was also treated to a look at the very kind and inspiring note Nolan sent to the cast of the upcoming MacGruber TV spinoff series. [caption id="attachment_28194" align="alignright" width="360"] Image via Universal Pictures[/caption] A decade after MacGruber's release, it has gone on to become a cult hit despite its …
MacGruber celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and to be honest it is hard to believe that so much time has passed since so many throats were judiciously ripped. To commemorate this important milestone, Vanity Fair published an oral history of the 2010 comedy compiled from interviews with the cast and crew, including writer/director Jorma Taccone; stars Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer, and Maya Rudolph; producers Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers; and even (indirectly) Christopher Nolan. The article is a must-read for any MacGruber fan. In addition to fun facts about the origins of MacGruber …
Get your throat-rippin’ hands ready, because the MacGruber TV show is very much in the works. For years, fans of the 2010 comedy MacGruber—one of the best comedies of the decade—have been clamoring for a sequel. Will Forte, Jorma Taccone and John Solomon, who made MacGruber, have also been trying to get one off the ground. And while an official MacGruber 2 was hard to make happen given that the first movie bombed at the box office, we got some great news earlier this year when word broke that a MacGruber TV series was in the works …
With all the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus, we’ve decided to postpone our sold out 10th anniversary screening of MacGruber until a later date this year. While everyone involved is incredibly disappointed to have to reschedule, we all feel it’s better to postpone until a later time. Since we aren’t sure when the screening will take place, ArcLight Cinemas is offering refunds to everyone that purchased a ticket here. Once we reschedule the event, we will let everyone know well in advance of tickets going on sale. We sincerely appreciate all the people that purchased tickets to the …
In a classic MacGruber move, Collider and ArcLight Cinemas will present a special screening of MacGruber. It's hard to believe it's been a solid decade since Will Forte took one of his biggest Saturday Night Live characters from the TV screen to the big screen with the help of director Jorma Taccone (of Lonely Island fame) and co-screenwriter John Solomon. The result? A stone cold comedy classic. Collider and ArcLight Cinemas will present MacGruber in the iconic Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, April 5, at 7 p.m. PT. But if you thought we'…
A MacGruber series is one of six new projects revealed for NBCUniversal's upcoming streaming service.
NBC Universal's forthcoming streaming series Peacock has unveiled its initial development slate, which features shows from Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Laverne Cox, Norman Lear and blah blah blah, THERE'S A MACGRUBER TV SERIES IN THE WORKS! Will Forte is set to reprise his now-iconic role as America's ultimate hero, the uber patriot MacGruber. He'll write and executive produce the series alongside John Solomon and Jorma Taccone, the latter of whom will also direct. The series hails from Universal Television, and executive producers also include Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David of Broadway …
MacGruber lives! Hopefully. A sequel to the brilliant, hilarious, and insane 2010 comedy has been talked about for a long time now, but getting it off the ground has proven difficult because, well, MacGruber was a box office bomb, grossing under $10 million at the box office. Written by Will Forte, John Solomon, and Jorma Taccone with Taccone at the helm, the film was a feature-length adaptation of a recurring SNL sketch in which Forte played a MacGuyver-like action hero with tremendous confidence and absolutely zero skill. The movie is a delightful (not to mention tremendously rewatchable) throwback …
