The film cuts to six months earlier, with Julia leaving her job as an editor at a popular fiction website to work from the home she will be sharing with her fiancée, David Conover, trying to settle into her new role as a wife and a stepmother, she believes she has finally met the man of her dreams, the man who can help her put her own troubled past behind her. Julia's friend Ali buys her some presents and tells her that if she needs anything, she is there.
