It's always daring to make a movie covering a relatively niche time period with young actors/actresses in a rapidly evolving time period. Unfortunately, Eighth Grade feels more like a DIY social media and social awkwardness session, repeatedly looping through predictable scenarios and topics. While many will love Elsie Fisher's "cute awkwardness" and innocence, many others will find the film boring and without any moments of awakening. It works solely because of the filmmaker and Elsie Fisher, but otherwise misses every mark.Jan 22, 2019
