More like Bobby Buff-er Jr., amirite? Nobody?
The Background: Nick Venable is an Assistant Managing Editor, and the TV Editor. His humble origin story with CinemaBlend began all the way back in the pre-streaming era, circa 2009, as a freelancing DVD reviewer and TV recapper. After rising up through the ranks covering Movies, Nick leapfrogged over to the small screen to cover more and more television news and interviews, eventually taking over the section for the current era. Born in Louisiana and currently living in Texas — Who Dat Nation over America’s Team all day, all night — Nick spent several years in the hospitality industry, and also worked as a 911 operator. And if you ever happened to hear his music or read his comics/short stories, you have his sympathy. His love for his wife and daughters is almost equaled by his love of gasp-for-breath laughter and gasp-for-breath horror. A lifetime spent in the vicinity of a television screen led to his current dream job, as well as his knowledge of too many TV themes and ad jingles.

What He's Into: Nick is one of those people who won’t necessarily insert a Monty Python reference into every conversation, but is still mentally equipped to do so. Beyond such appreciation for surreal UK comedy, Nick also indulges in as much horror splendor as possible, from Stephen King novels to James Tynion IV comics to Freddy Krueger one-liners to all things Mike Flanagan. Throw in a dash of NFL, some 311 and Weird Al, fried crawfish poboys, bourbon, ‘90s-era pro wrestling, crossword puzzles and mystery-driven video games, and baby, you got a stew going. (Nick will insert an Arrested Development reference into every conversation, if possible.)

What He's Excited About: Anything Jeff Lemire, Tom King and W. Maxwell Prince think of, ever. More of Kelly Reilly’s deliriously fierce performances on Yellowstone. HBO’s The Last of Us. Clone High’s return. Colin Farrell’s Penguin being in every movie/TV show/breakfast cereal.

Expectations that David Fincher would do more with a traditional assassin story are not met, and while it’s not a dissatisfying cinematic experience, it is a disappointing one.

Is it getting hot in here or is it just these classic thrillers?
It’s been a whole decade since Halloween has not had its accompanying season of American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s outré horror anthology series. (The global pandemic wound up being scarier than any ghost, ghoul, or whatever that weird sex monster in Hotel was.) But just because this year’s installment of Murphy’s spooky flagship series has been sidelined doesn’t mean he can’t still bring the horror. This year his Halloween treat comes in the form of Ratched, a pseudo-origin story for the masochistic nurse in Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over …
Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for Ghost, a film that came out 30 years ago. The supernatural fantasy romance film Ghost, in which Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore put on the Righteous Brothers and sex-demolish some pottery, snuck up on audiences in 1990 like a horny poltergeist. Made on a slim budget by a director primarily known for screwball comedies in which Leslie Nielsen bumbles his way through a series of international incidents, the movie was a surprise hit, and even that phrase isn’t quite strong enough. Ghost made over a half-billion dollars to become …

The gameplay trailer released at the Devolver Direct event on Saturday makes good on the promises of the teaser trailer. This trailer comes packed to the brim with …
Every dad in America should get to see Greyhound for free. It is your right as dads to see a movie that doesn’t really have a plot or characters but is an incredibly well-made tribute to World War II naval warfare starring America’s Dad, Tom Hanks. Some might argue that Greyhound is too thin to warrant consideration, but I would counter that it hits the sweet spot of what it’s going for, which is to put you in the middle of a tense standoff as a Fletcher-class destroyer attempts to protect a group of supply …
