Blending body horror, religious fervor, and cerebral scares, Saint Maud is a damned disturbing and deliciously dark experience.
Listen: I love horror movies. And I love seeing horror movies in a crowded theater, hearing everyone's reactions alongside me. Ask me about my "what a person sitting next to me did during the last moments of Hereditary" story sometime, it's great. But despite all this, I must say: I love "not spreading a still-spreading pandemic" more. Which is why I'm a little scared to hear that Saint Maud is getting a new release date from A24: July 17. And not "scared" in a good way. I am stoked for Saint Maud. Our own Haleigh Foutch …
Attention, horror-heads: You're gonna wanna head to the She Is Risen screening series, courtesy of AMC Theaters and A24. In anticipation of Saint Maud, the upcoming A24 horror film from writer/director Rose Glass and star Morfydd Clark, the studio is teaming up with AMC to deliver a series of female-fronted horror classics: all leading up to an advanced screening of Saint Maud. [caption id="attachment_878207" align="alignright" width="350"] Image via A24/AMC[/caption] On March 13, She Is Risen kicks off with the director's cut of The Exorcist, featuring iconic turns from Linda Blair …
A24 has unleashed upon us a second, more terrifying trailer for Saint Maud. The upcoming feature falls firmly into the horror genre — a category the studio beloved by cinephiles does best. It's also the first feature film from Rose Glass, a director who will no doubt become an A24 go-to similar to faves Ari Aster and Robert Eggers, both of whom had their debut horror features distributed by the studio, too. [caption id="attachment_877092" align="alignright" width="360"] Image via A24[/caption] This new Saint Maud trailer reveals even more agony and ecstasy than the first. Once again, …
A24 has become known for a lot of things in the cinephile community; fiercely idiosyncratic indies, ambitious and unusual horror films, extravagantly priced merch you can't help but add to your cart anyway... the list goes on. But one of the most remarkable qualities in their winning streak is how often they provide a platform for visionary first-time filmmakers. From coming-of-age comedies like Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird and Bo Burnham's Eighth Grade to instant horror classics like Robert Eggers' The Witch and Ari Aster's Hereditary to pensive dramas like Joe Talbot's The …
The debut film from director Rose Glass looks like another complex and devastating horror film from A24.
A24 has released the first trailer for Rose Glass’ upcoming horror film, Saint Maud. The story follows Maud (Morfydd Clark), a hospice nurse obsessed with salvation for her dying patient’s soul. However, the lengths she’ll go to save that soul take her on a dark and twisted path. I wasn’t aware of this movie until I saw the trailer, but now it has my attention. A24 knows how to put some truly brilliant horror pictures into the world, and even if they don’t all work for me (see the works of Ari Aster), I like that …
The human species has found a lot of ways to deal with their trauma, some more healthy than others, but there’s no denying that the scorch of unfathomable hardship often drives people into the soothing structure of religion, where suffering is part of god’s plan and salvation holds the promise of an eventual happily ever after. In other words: “Never waste your pain.” That four-word motto is a repeated anthem for Maud (Morfydd Clark), the recently converted nurse at the heart of A24’s most recent horror acquisition, Saint Maud. The debut feature from writer/director Rose …

A24 has added to its already venerable library of horror films with the acquisition of Saint Maud. The film marks the feature-length film debut of Rose Glass, a director whose previous work in mostly in shorts. Saint Maud stars Morfydd Clark (Love and Friendship, The Man Who Invented Christmas) and Jennifer Ehle (Vox Lux, The Miseducation of Cameron Post). According to Deadline, Saint Maud follows Maud (Clark), a young nurse who has sought out Christianity as a means of dealing with some obscure past trauma that haunts her into the present day. Driven by her newfound religious fervor, Maud …
